The Importance of Goal Setting

At Frame we are big on using goal setting in both a professional and personal capacity, and we’re not just talking about significant goals we set at the start of each year - we use goals on a weekly basis to help give us focus and motivation and best of all, it helps us combat procrastination. If you find yourself having difficulty with focus or motivation, it is a good idea to take some time to reflect and create some goals, both big and small to propel you forward.

Often when we think of setting goals in the new year it just seems really unappealing. So why should we set goals?

  • Goals give you focus. Without a goal, your efforts can become disjointed and often confusing.

  • Goals help you measure progress. When you see measurable progress, you’re more likely to remain focused and motivated.

  • Goals help you stay motivated because they are outcome driven, keeping you working towards the finish line.

  • Goals help you beat procrastination. They give you clarity which keeps you on task and moving in the right direction.

  • Goals help you to determine what you want in life. By giving yourself time to reflect, you are better able to identify your priorities, whether that is in your work or your personal life.

    How do I set goals?

  • Be clear and specific with what you want to achieve. We recommend using SMART goals which means your goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound.

  • Break the goal down into steps. You might also like to set timeframes or deadlines for each step to help keep you on track.

  • Track your progress which will help you to stay motivated.

  • Acknowledge your weaknesses, and take note of any setbacks. It pays to proactively tackle any weaknesses that could hold you back. Ask for help and support!

  • Be accountable, by sharing your goals with someone close to you, they can help to encourage you and hold you accountable. Depending on the goal, you might want to periodically get a friend to make sure you follow through.

By actively setting goals you will be amazed by how much you can achieve with added focus, motivation and determination on your side. Happy goal setting!
