How to keep morale high in your workplace during the Covid-19 lockdown
Things have changed dramatically in just a number of weeks. It’s safe to say that the entire country are still in shock as to how quickly Covid-19 has shaken up our daily way of life, and our businesses.
Staff all around NZ are feeling a mixture of emotions, including anxiety and stress. As employers, it’s important that we focus on keeping morale high and our teams motivated, thinking ahead to beyond this crisis. At times like this, people remember the small things- that make all the difference in their day.
So, how do you keep your team busy and inspired, when there their normal workload has drastically decreased?
Firstly, it’s important to be visible and keep the communication up as a team. Here at Frame, we have a Monday and Friday morning Zoom, over coffee, where we check in on each other, talk about changes to our industry that have happened over the week and brainstorm for what our post-lockdown strategy will be. This is a great opportunity to maintain your team spirit, support each other and for you to gauge how individuals in your team are coping.
We also have a group chat thread on Facebook, where we share light-hearted memes, articles and general chat during the week.
Secondly, you can keep your team engaged with work by keeping their brains active! There are a number of ways you can offer additional learning and education, without having to pay a fortune.
Here are a few ideas;
Industry webinars or youtube clips to watch
Send them interesting and relevant articles to read
Send them relevant podcasts to listen to for extra learning in their chosen field- or a field they would like to upskill in
Ask key team members to contribute to writing blog posts for your website and social media
Involve the team in the post lockdown strategy planning. By making it a collective effort it will keep the team positive and focusing on the future.
The current situation is constantly changing and so it is vital to keep your employees busy, engaged and feeling positive about the future.
Wishing you all the very best over the coming weeks! And if there is anything I can do to support you, or offer ideas and advice, please feel free to reach out directly.
