Merchandise Planner – Fishing, Outdoor & Adventure Categories

Brittain Wynyard is a well-established New Zealand distributor of leading sports, adventure and lifestyle brands, and they're after an experienced Merchandise Planner to join the team in central Auckland. It's a great chance to get hands on with global brands across three categories: Fishing, Outdoor (think Coleman, WildTrak and more) and Adventure (Sea to Summit, Osprey, Scarpa, Black Diamond and more).
Given the breadth of these ranges, you'll need to come from a background managing high-SKU categories.This isn't a role suited to someone used to a small, simple assortment. Beyond that, the position is crucial in ensuring the right product assortment, effective inventory management and accurate sales forecasting, all while keeping up with market trends and working closely with key stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing and executing product strategies across the Fishing, Outdoor and Adventure categories
Managing inventory levels to ensure timely replenishment and minimise stock issues
Leading sales and stock forecasting to align with sales and business goals
Overseeing the product life cycle from inception to sell-through analysis
Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers
Utilising sales data and market trends to make informed decisions on product assortment
Collaborating closely with sales, marketing and finance teams to drive successful product launches and promotions
Monitoring market trends to keep product offerings competitive and appealing
Providing regular reports on inventory, sales performance and forecast accuracy
The ideal candidate will have:
Proven experience in merchandise planning, ideally within sporting goods or outdoor retail
A proven background working across high-SKU product ranges, comfortable with scale and complexity
Expertise in inventory management and sales forecasting
Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems
Analytical skills for interpreting sales data and identifying trends
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
A genuine passion for fishing, camping and outdoor adventure is a big plus!
